Every class combines lecture-style teaching, slideshow presentations, and hands-on demonstrations with individual attention throughout. Every class includes handouts for personal student use.

Class lengths range from 90 minutes to 6 hours and can often be adjusted for online formats. Promotional materials, including class descriptions, photos, homework and materials lists, are provided once a contract is signed.

Technique Classes

About Tonia

Tonia Lyons teaches knitters how to really understand their knitting, with the goal of helping them become more confident about tackling new projects or techniques. Attendees frequently praise her thorough preparation and extensive use of handmade samples.

She is a TKGA-certified knitting instructor and Master Hand Knitter based in Quebec, Canada. Her work has been published in Interweave Knits, Cast On, and Knit Now. She has designed for Knit Picks, Biscotte Yarns, and Brown Sheep Company. She discusses knitting topics on her YouTube channel, Nerdy Knitting, with the goal of helping knitters find their confidence and knit garments that fit their body shape.

She has taught at the TKGA Next Level Knitting Conference (2023, 2024, 2025, 2026), Virtual Vogue Knitting Live (2024, 2025), Knit Social Montreal (2025), Festival Twist (2025), PEI Fibre Festival (2025), Knitting by the Sea Retreat (2026), and guild meetings across Canada and the United States.

Booking Information

Format:

Available for in-person and online events.

Online events can be hosted on the organization’s virtual meeting platform or Tonia’s Zoom account.

Class sizes:

Lectures: 30 students or more

In-person classes: 10-20 students

Online classes: up to 30 students

Handouts:

Included with every class.

For online events, handouts are provided as a PDF to organizers at least 24 hours before class for distribution to attendees.

Promotional materials:

Class descriptions, photos, homework and materials lists are provided once a contract is signed.

Location:

Based in Quebec, Canada. Teaches at events across Canada and the United States. Travel and accommodations for venues more than 100 km from the Ottawa, Ontario area are addressed on a case-by-case basis.
