About Tonia Lyons

Tonia Lyons is a Master Hand Knitter, Certified Knitting Instructor, and knitwear designer based in Quebec, Canada. She loves discussing a variety of knitting topics on her YouTube channel, Nerdy Knitting, with the goal of helping knitters find their knitting confidence.

She an enthusiastic teacher, teaching at local events throughout Canada and the United States – for guilds, shops, and knitting festivals. She also teaches at online events and offers online classes and a variety of video tutorials through her YouTube channel. She’s taught for The Next Level Knitting Conference, Virtual Vogue Knitting Live, Knit Social, and at other in-person and online events.

Tonia’s designs and articles have been published in a variety of knitting magazines and online publications including Interweave Knits, Cast On, and Knit Now. She’s also designed for both large and small yarn manufacturers like Knit Picks, Biscotte Yarns, and the Brown Sheep Company.

My Story

Hey! I love knitting and if you’re here you probably love knitting too.

I don’t want to spend a lot of time telling you my life story – I know you’re not here for that! But I do want to share a little bit about my knitting journey:

I’ve only been knitting since 2017 so I don’t have years and years of of knitting experience. But don’t leave just yet! I may have been knitting for just a few years, but after picking up that first set of knitting needles, I absolutely fell in love with knitting and wanted to learn all I could.

Since then I’ve completed the TKGA Master Hand Knitting program and become a Certified Technical Editor and Knitting Instructor (all within a five year period!).

I don’t say this to brag (but maybe it shows how obsessive I can be when I find something I love). I say this to demonstrate how much I really love knitting. I love that it can be easy and mindless while I’m watching Netflix. I love how complicated it can be when I’m working an intricate cable or lace design. We can make statements about what we believe and how we present ourselves to the world – all with some sticks and string.
