Chevron Cherub Wrap

The Chevron Cherub Wrap by Lisa Seifert for KnitPicks uses their CotLin yarn (a great DK weight cotton and linen blend) and classic increase and decrease techniques to create the chevron shape. This pattern uses two contrasting colors worked in alternating stripes. The body of the blanket is worked in Stockinette stitch with a Garter stitch border (the finished measurements are 29″ x 32″).

Chevron Stripes Blanket

The Chevron Stripes Blanket is a fun take on the textured chevron pattern that uses loop yarn (the pattern uses Bernat Alize) meaning you don’t even need knitting needles. Loop yarn is designed for finger knitting, with the loops built right into the yarn structure – you just need to weave the individual loops together. There’s no increasing and decreasing with this chevron pattern – it’s created with knit and purl stitches. The finished blanket measures 45″ x 54″.

It uses the standard increase/decrease technique worked in Stockinette stitch to create the chevron pattern enclosed with a Garter Stitch border. The simple 2-row repeat is easy enough for even new knitters (and for those who want the colorwork all done for them). The finished blanket is 45″ x 58″.

Baby Blanket Chevron

The Baby Blanket Chevron by Joan Laws is another wonderful chevron option – this one is worked in two colors using a Mosaic knitting technique that involves slipping the stitches of the unused color in each row. Mosaic knitting is easy – don’t be scared of this kind of colorwork – you’re only using one color on each row (no need to hold two more more colors at once!). The finished blanket comes in four sizes: Premie 18″ x 18″, Full Term 25″ x 25″, Stroller 32″ x 35″, Crib 35″ x 43″ and also includes instructions for adjusting the size to suit your needs.

Chevron Baby Blanket

The Chevron Baby Blanket from Espace Tricot features a beautiful blanket (I love the color selection for this one). This blanket uses the standard increase/decrease method worked in Stockinette stitch but there’s no border to control the curling so be sure to choose a yarn that will allow you to block it flat. 4 Ways to Create a Chevron Design

There are multiple ways to create a chevron pattern while knitting. You can:

  • The classic design uses a combination of increases and decreases to create the classic ‘arrow shapes’.
  • Textured chevrons can be created by using a combination of knit and purl stitches (with either written or charted instructions).
  • Another option for textured chevrons is Seed stitch chevrons alternated with Stockinette stitch sections.
  • Change the background stitch for another variation (a Stockinette chevron can easily become Garter stitch chevron).
  • Change the width of each ‘V’ by adding or subtracting plain stitches between the increases and decreases.
  • Look for a Mosaic chevron pattern – you’re only working with one color every two rows but can still create wonderful designs.

Don’t forget about color – you can create a truly unique blanket by changing the colors. Here are a few ideas:

  • Try one solid color
  • Use two colors worked in alternating wide stripes
  • Add a few more colors and change the width of the stripes
  • Use a self-striping yarn that does the color-changing for you
  • Make a scrap blanket – alternating colors as you run out of scraps yarn
